About Puffy
Puffy is an American mattress retailer that specializes in creating the highest quality foam mattresses. After conducting research and sleep trials for four years, Puffy believes they have crafted the perfect mattress, promising to both enhance sleep and reduce back pain.
Their mattresses cater to all sleeper types and come in a variety of sizes, sure to fit into anyone’s lifestyle. We need that now more than ever since as many as 70 million Americans have some form of sleeping disorder, as reported in this study.
Puffy Mattress launched their memory-foam mattresses in 2017. To set themselves apart from the competition, Puffy created a mattress that was tailored towards customers’ needs. Four years of research was done to develop the perfect mattress, where sleep trials and foam formulations played a key role in the creation of the Puffy Mattress.
Puffy does not only make the promise of being a perfect mattress, the company also advocates for eco-friendly manufacturing practices. Many foam mattresses contain harmful chemicals, but not Puffy. Made in the United States, Puffy is CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning that the foam used has been tested and does not contain any harmful chemicals.
If their mattresses aren’t enough to make Puffy popular, their Puffy Donation Program surely is. At Puffy, they want “everyone to sleep as well as possible,” and this program aims to do just that. For every ten posts on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, Puffy donates one mattress to their donation partners. All users have to do is snap a photo with their mattress, tag Puffy in the photo and use the hashtag #puffydonation. On top of that, Puffy donates every mattress that gets returned to a local charity. Hooray for Puffy!
In my Puffy Mattress review, I’ll provide an overview of the brand and the products they sell, the materials they use, their unique features, and more. First, allow me to cover the brand’s pros and cons.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Pressure Relief: Puffy mattresses typically provide excellent pressure relief, thanks to their comfort layers, which conform to the body’s contours. This can help alleviate discomfort and reduce the risk of developing pressure points.
- Motion Isolation: Puffy mattresses are often praised for their ability to isolate motion. If you share a bed with a partner who frequently moves during sleep, this feature can minimize disturbances, allowing for a more peaceful sleep experience.
- Cooling Properties: Many Puffy mattresses incorporate cooling technologies, such as gel-infused foams or breathable cover materials, to regulate temperature and prevent overheating during the night. This can be especially beneficial for individuals who tend to sleep hot.
- Trial Period and Warranty: Puffy offers a generous sleep trial period, allowing customers to try out their mattress in the comfort of their home. They also provide a lifetime warranty, demonstrating their confidence in the quality and durability of their products.
Cons:
- Limited Firmness Options: Puffy mattresses typically come in one or two firmness options. While this can be suitable for some sleepers, those who prefer a specific firmness level may find the choices limited.
- Edge Support: Some Puffy mattress models may have less reinforced edges compared to traditional innerspring mattresses. This could lead to reduced edge support, making it less supportive when sitting or sleeping near the mattress’s perimeter.
- Price: Puffy mattresses are generally considered to be in the mid- to high-price range, which may be a con for budget-conscious individuals or those seeking more affordable options.
- Response Time: Due to the contouring and pressure-relieving properties of Puffy mattresses, they may have a slower response time compared to more responsive mattresses. This might not be ideal for sleepers who prefer a more bouncy or quick-response feel.
Materials
Puffy mattresses are constructed using a combination of different materials to provide comfort, support, and durability. While the specific materials may vary depending on the model and version of the Puffy mattress, here are the common materials used:
- Memory Foam: Puffy mattresses typically feature multiple layers of memory foam, which is known for its ability to contour and adapt to the body’s shape. Memory foam provides pressure relief by distributing weight evenly and reducing the impact on pressure points.
- Cooling Gel Infusion: Many Puffy mattresses incorporate gel-infused memory foam or cooling gel beads within the foam layers. These cooling technologies help dissipate heat and regulate the mattress temperature, ensuring a cooler sleep surface.
- Transition Foam: Puffy mattresses often include a layer of transition foam between the comfort and support layers. This foam is designed to provide a gradual shift from the softer comfort layers to the firmer support layers, enhancing overall support and responsiveness.
- High-Density Polyfoam: Puffy mattresses typically have a base layer made of high-density polyfoam. This layer provides foundational support, durability, and stability to the mattress.
- Breathable Cover: Puffy mattresses come with a breathable cover that is designed to promote airflow and enhance the cooling properties of the mattress. The cover is usually made of a soft and stretchy fabric that allows for better airflow and ventilation.
Features
The Puffy Mattress contains four different layers that are formulated to ensure you are getting the best possible sleep. I’ll go three each of these four layers in this Puffy Mattress review:
- The 2” Cooling Cloud Foam top layer
- The 1.5” Plush Dual Cloud layer (exclusive to the Puffy Lux Mattress)
- The 2” Climate Comfort layer
- The 7” Firm Core Support base layer
These four layers work together to create the Puffy Mattress. But, what do each of these layers do? I’ve summed it up for you in this Puffy Mattress review.
The 2” Cooling Cloud Foam Top Layer
The Cooling Cloud Foam is the top layer on the Puffy Mattress. This layer ensures the mattress is soft enough to be comfortable, but firm enough to support the weight and pressure placed on it. The adaptable foam is adaptable to all sleeper types; it reduces pressure felt on the hips and shoulders for side sleepers, while still offering enough support for back sleepers. This layer is highly breathable, allowing your body to remain at a natural temperature zone and not overheat.
The 1.5” Plush Dual Cloud Layer
The Plush Dual Cloud Layer provides maximum comfort to sleepers. This layer is what allows the Puffy mattress to perfectly contour to the sleeper’s body, ensuring a personalized sleeping experience for everyone. On top of that, this layer is soft enough to alleviate typical pressure points (hips and shoulders) to allow for a sleep experience that promotes physical well-being.
The 2” Climate Comfort Layer
The Climate Comfort Layer specializes in regulating the temperature of the mattress, all year-round. Foam mattresses can expand and contract when temperatures fluctuate from hot to cold, and this layer in the Puffy mattress ensures it consistently remains the same.
The 7” Firm Core Support Base Layer
The Firm Core Support is the final and most important layer. Found exclusively in Puffy mattresses, this layer offers a supportive base that maximizes durability and ensures a long-lasting mattress. This layer allows the mattress to be comfortably used on all mattress bases, from the floor to a box spring.
5 Best-Selling Puffy Mattress Products
Currently, the two best-selling Puffy mattresses are the titular Puffy Mattress and the Puffy Lux Mattress. They are extremely similar, but the Lux does have a few features that the regular Puffy Mattress does not. I’ll cover their differences, and tell you about Puffy’s other available products, in the next section of my Puffy Mattress review.
Puffy Mattress Review
The original Puffy Mattress is 10” thick. It’s comprised of three layers for a medium-firm feel, making it great for sleepers who need a bit more support. Its layers include the Cooling Cloud layer, the Climate Comfort layer, and the Firm Core Support layer.
As you can assume from that information, the Puffy Mattress works hard to keep you cool at night. Beyond that, it can reduce pressure via its pressure-relief foam so you can have an easier sleep.
The Puffy Mattress works for all sleeping types and comes in these sizes:
- Twin: $899
- Twin XL: $949
- Full: $1,099
- Queen: $1,299
- King: $1,449
- California King: $1,449
Customers say: “We have enjoyed a Tepur pedic mattress for many years. We decided to get a Puffy Mattress for a spare room. We love it, very comparable to our overpriced Tempur pedic.”
Puffy Lux Mattress Review
In comparison, the Puffy Lux Mattress is 13” thick and comprised of 4 layers. It includes all the same layers as the standard Puffy Mattress, plus the Plush Dual Cloud layer. Expectedly, this layer adds another 3″ of comfort and height, making this a better pick for folks seeking a medium-plush feel.
Some other improvements the Puffy Lux Mattress holds over the brand’s titular product include enhanced spinal alignment and a luxury cover. It’s a better choice if you need a mattress with more luxury, though I’m sure you could’ve guess that from its name.
The Puffy Lux Mattress is available in the following sizes:
- Twin: $1,449
- Twin XL: $1,499
- Full: $1,599
- Queen: $1,799
- King: $1,999
- California King: $1,999
Customers say: “I got my Puffy Lux last night and for the first time I slept through the night and did not wake up with excruciating nerve pain.”
Puffy Adjustable Base Review
Right off the bat, the Puffy Adjustable Base is cool. Like, really cool. This base is an easy to install model and is designed to support all mattresses, whether foam, spring or anything else. The Puffy Adjustable Base comes with:
- Built in massage motors with 3 different speeds
- USB charging ports
- Adjustable leg height to increase under-the-bed storage
- LED lighting built into the bottom of the bed
- Wireless remote to control all features
- Adjustable leg and head height
The Puffy Adjustable Base is available in two colours: dark grey and light grey. It comes in four different sizes: Twin XL ($1,199), Full ($1,299), Queen ($1,399), and Split King ($2,099). The Split King has a special feature of fitting two Twin XL mattresses, allowing each side of the bed to be raised and lowered to different levels.
Customers say: “It was easy to assemble, appears very sturdy, well designed and durable. It is great comfort for long night sleep as well as for short afternoon naps during the weekends.“
Puffy Bed Frame Review
The Puffy Bed Frame is your simple, traditional bed frame. It is available only in dark grey and comes with wooden slats to support your mattress. No box spring needed! The Puffy Bed Frame is constructed to be noise-free to allow for a peaceful, disruption sleep. The padded headboard is made of cloth, and is extra comfortable for your back and neck when leaning against.
The Puffy Bed Frame comes in four sizes: Full ($899), Queen ($999), King ($1,099), and California King ($1,099).
Customers say: “If you are looking for a high quality bed frame that doesn’t make sounds or move at the corners then we would absolutely recommend this one… We’ve slept on our king size Puffy frame for about 3 months now and both agree that it was more worth it.“
Puffy Pillow Review
The Puffy Pillow is designed to deliver both comfort and pain relief. The pillow features an inner sleeve that can be unzipped to remove or add extra foam to fit its users comfort needs. The Puffy Pillow is hypoallergenic, made from polyester and a bamboo-rayon blend. The bamboo-rayon blend allows the pillow to stay cool at all times, and creates a highly breathable pillow cover. The cover can be zipped off and easily washed as well.
The Puffy Pillow is available in Standard size ($79) and King size ($99).
Customers say: “When we bought our Puffy Lux mattress I figured I would try the pillows too and I am so happy I did! We sleep so much better now, don’t need to fluff our pillows in the middle of the night, and I’ve also stopped snoring!“

Here are three brands with mattresses that may tickle your fancy if you like what you’ve read in my Puffy review thus far.

Is Puffy Worth It?
If I’m being completely honest, after writing this Puffy Mattress review, the chance of me ordering a Puffy Mattress within the next twenty-four hours is unbelievably high. The reviews alone are enough to entice me that this mattress will undoubtedly take my sleeping game to new levels (and perhaps change my life!).
In my opinion, there are certain items that are simply just worth the money. They’re an investment. And a good quality mattress is definitely one of them. Puffy’s mattresses are a bit pricey (to be fair, most high-quality mattresses are) but they definitely seem to deliver on being as comfortable as Puffy promises.
I could easily skip on purchasing the bed frames, no matter how cool they are, and the rest of Puffy’s bedroom accessories. For me, the real star of their catalogue is the mattress. A good night’s sleep is crucial to anyone’s well being, and sometimes a cheap IKEA mattress isn’t really going to cut it, you know?
After skimming the site to write this Puffy Mattress review and reading the thousands of great reviews already posted, purchasing a Puffy mattress seems like an awesome idea. They’re comfortable, eco-friendly, and come with a life-time warranty!
Puffy Promotions & Discounts
Puffy regularly offers discounts on many of their products. It’s likely that they’re running a promotion as you’re reading this Puffy review, so I’d recommend checking their website ASAP.
How to Choose the Best Puffy Mattress
To choose the best Puffy mattress product, consider the following factors:
- Firmness Preference: Determine whether you prefer a medium, medium-plush, or medium-firm feel. This will depend on your personal comfort preferences and any specific sleep needs you have, such as back pain or pressure point relief.
- Sleeping Position: Consider your primary sleeping position. Side sleepers typically benefit from a softer mattress, while back and stomach sleepers may prefer a firmer mattress for optimal support.
- Cooling Features: If you tend to sleep hot or live in a warmer climate, prioritize mattresses with advanced cooling technologies to help regulate temperature and prevent overheating during the night.
- Budget: Take into account your budget and choose a mattress that fits within your price range. Keep in mind that Puffy mattresses are typically in the mid- to high-price range, but they often offer promotions and discounts.
- Trial Period and Warranty: Consider the length of the sleep trial period and the warranty offered by Puffy. A longer sleep trial period allows you to test the mattress in your own home, and a comprehensive warranty provides peace of mind.
Where to Buy Puffy Mattress
All of Puffy’s products are only available for purchase online. It may seem a bit scary to purchase a mattress you haven’t tested out, but Puffy has got you covered. All of their items have a 101 night sleep trial, meaning that you can test the product out for three months and, if you decide it isn’t right for you, have your money fully refunded.
On top of that, Puffy also offers a lifetime warranty on all their products. If you encounter a problem with your mattress or bed frame ten years from now, Puffy will send you a brand new one, free of charge.
